The thought of having surgery to remove the excess skin from weight loss had floated through my mind for a few years, and in 2023, I started exploring my options.

The colorectal surgeon who operated on the bowel cancer advised that it would not be safe or recommended for any surgeon to work on my abdomen area because of the internal trauma from the cancer surgeries.

The gynecologist I was seeing for some time wanted to operate on me as a precaution for my future health but advised she would not because of my cancer history and as her colleague advised, it was too risky.

I wasn’t going to give up, I waited a while, feeling defeated but determined, so I started contacting plastic and cosmetic surgeons to hear this from them directly for myself.

The first two surgeons I contacted refused but the third offered me an appointment and in early 2024 I started having consultations with him.

I was advised that surgery may be risky and the outcomes couldn’t be guaranteed but he was confident that he could operate on me and that I’d be satisfied with the results.

A few months later a friend shared that she was going to Bangkok for the same surgeries that I hoped for so I asked many questions and ‘virtually’ went on the journey with her.

A few weeks into her Bangkok experience I had made contact with the company she had booked with and sent information about my cancer and health history and shortly after I was booked in to have surgery in Bangkok in November of 2024.

The lead up to the surgeries included getting healthy physically and mentally.

My body and mind needed to be at their best for a successful outcome, including losing weight, moving more and most importantly eating healthy.

Arriving in Bangkok for this pending ‘adventure’ felt surreal and I won’t lie, I was anxious about it too. My motto for the following weeks was ‘The best is yet to come’.
